Have you ever seen someone have a heart attack? Their eyes go dim, their pulse stops, their mouth goes dry, and their pupils dilate. Why do such reactions happen in the head when it's the heart that's malfunctioning? Obviously, the head along with the rest of the body manifest the efforts of the heart shutting down. It is from the heart that the head and the body have life. What is stored deeply within your heart? If the answer eludes you, you may need more time for inner work. The best way to discover what is in your heart is to seek and to continuously grow close to God. James tells us how to get pure hearts. We must remember that God is always near; we are the ones who need to draw close to our creator. Someone once said that if you don't feel close to God, ask yourself who did the moving. As we draw closer to God through prayer, reading and meditating upon scripture, worshipping, and fellowshipping with believers, we will surely feel more of God's presence. God hasn't moved or left us; we just have to draw closer.
Scripture: James 4:8 KJV Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Prayer: Holy God who is so near me, as I examine my motivations and feelings, I know there are many that are not pleasing to you and not loving toward others. I place them honestly before you. I trust that you are, in this moment, replacing them with right-thinking and right behavior and that, bit by bit, my heart will be pure before you. In Jesus name. Amen.
